About the Institute of Service Excellence
The Institute of Service Excellence (ISE) is a professional institute in Kigali, Rwanda. It teaches and assesses service excellence at three levels, from frontline service delivery to executive accountability, and the certificates it assesses for are issued by Trusted Rw.
What the institute does
ISE exists because service quality in most organisations is carried by individuals rather than by systems. It is usually possible to name the two or three people who are good with customers, which is another way of saying that the standard leaves with them.
The institute treats that as something teachable and assessable. It publishes taught courses, assesses candidates against a written standard, and issues a credential that an employer can check rather than take on trust. Three things follow from that and they are the whole method: the standard is published, the assessment is described, and every certificate is verifiable by number.
The standard we assess against
Assessment is against the Trusted Rw Service Excellence Standard, TRW-SES 1.0. Its clauses state what a certified service professional must be able to do, in terms specific enough that a candidate either meets them or does not.
Publishing it is deliberate. A credential whose standard is not published asks an employer to trust the issuer. One whose standard is published asks them to read it and decide for themselves, which is the only version of the request that is fair to make.
The certification pathway
Three levels, separated by what the holder is accountable for.
Certified Service Excellence Officer (CSEO)
Frontline service delivery and customer interaction
Certified Service Excellence Professional (CSEP)
Service quality, CX improvement and professional practice
Certified Service Excellence Manager (CSEM)
Leadership, strategy and service excellence transformation
ISE and Trusted Rw
ISE is the institute. Trusted Rw is the company that publishes it and issues the certificates, and it operates Rwanda's business trust and customer feedback platform at trusted.rw.
The division is worth stating plainly because both names appear on a certificate. ISE teaches the course and runs the assessment; Trusted Rw awards and stands behind the credential, and it is Trusted Rw's name on the standard the assessment uses.
What these certifications are, and are not
These are professional credentials, not academic qualifications, and ISE is not accredited by a national qualifications authority. What stands behind the certificate is a published standard, a documented assessment method and a public verification page for every certificate issued.
For most employers that is the useful part: the question they are asking is whether this person has been independently assessed against something written down, and that question has a checkable answer.
